The best of both worlds ?

Updated: Feb 12

Once I got used to having a terrace garden, I started wanting an even larger garden. This is really what motivated me to explore villa projects around Bangalore.

I soon realised that it is very challenging to find a new villa with a large private garden for sale - the larger the plot area, the larger is the structure that the developer wants to build on it- the typical villa buyer values living space more than garden space.

After evaluating multiple such projects I realised that I would have to get an adequate sized plot on which to build our home.

Larger plot sizes require one to get further away from the city centre from a affordability perspective. Additionally, city land tends to be quite 'commodity like' in terms of features - one is unlikely to be next to a water body or a hill. On the other hand, there is always the risk that your home will be overshadowed by large high-rises in every direction. One cant escape the noise and air pollution either.

Cities however are attractive due to the cultural, dining, retail, transportation & medical infrastructure they offer - my thumb rule is that one should be within sixty minutes driving distance from theatres, hospitals, airports and the like. Also cities tend to expand so it's fine if the home is slightly further away - the distances will get reduced over time. This then offers one the best of both worlds !
